Lib Dem controlled HDC has published a new development plan including thousands of houses to be built on the countryside around Horsham. Our MP, Jeremy Quin, has described this plan as “naive and reckless”.
Local councils can set out factors to consider in determining the scale of development. Horsham is suffering significant Water Stress, which should be used to justify lower numbers. Their plan assumes that new residents will only use 85 litres of water per day. This is enough for one short shower per day, nothing for drinking, flushing toilets, etc.
Jeremy Quin MP said “I believe HDC’s plan is naïve in expecting a huge change in behaviour which won’t be monitored. They have adopted targets that won’t work and recklessly put at risk the sustainability of our water supplies and local natural habitats."
National Lib Dem policy is to increase massively the amount of development. If adopted, this would have serious implications for Horsham
