A historically significant artefact was unveiled last month as the Shipley reliquary was finally returned to the District and immediately loaned to Horsham Museum of Art for local people to enjoy. The 800-year-old reliquary is fabled as the most treasured possession of Shipley church, which according to tradition was found buried in the churchyard into which sacred relics were believed to be kept. The reliquary is an example of Limoges enamel, produced in France between the 12th and 14th century and is in remarkably good condition for its age.
